Life has nothing to do with the spiral shape of our galaxy because according to (Moskvitch K., 2014) researchers discovered that the universe was a chaotic place in its infancy. Billions of years back the first galaxies were massive disks which werr bright star forming clumps and a little regular structure. The galaxy had to settle down from a previous chaotic phase in order to form the spirals seen today. As time went on these galaxies lost most of their big clumps and a central bright bulge appeared during this time the smaller clumps formed distinct “woolly” spiral arms. The arms became distinct when the earth was about 3,6billion years. The turbulence subsided because the galaxies had a chance to settle down while new stars formed in a quieter disk.

I believe scientists are in search for life in elliptical galaxies but there has been no proof yet of life in this galaxy. There has been some assumption, as the cosmos is vaste and scientist have built a cosmobiological model mapping the galaxies in our universe to help us understand which ones are habitable probably when there is something that moves differently from what they had in mind there is a point to suspicion of life around there.

Yes galaxies can form in a merger of galaxies because it is they collide and interact with other galaxies and according to (Read A., Ponman T., O’Sullivan 2015) they believe the evolution of time is driven by collisions and mergers of galaxies. During the collision the probability is that no star actually collides with each other because there are a large number of stars in the galaxy and their density is not big since the galaxies are actually very big which simply means the stars avery small as compared tho the distance between them that is why they cannot collide. So if galaxies are made of stars and they collide the stars will pass through each other without being affected.

    • It is believed that spiral galaxies are shaped the way that they are because they rotate. Density waves also cause the stars to clump together and appear to be a spiral arm.

The size of the galaxy, or the number of stars that are able to host inhabitants; the amount of carbon, oxygen, and iron present in the galaxy; and supernova explosions are the criteria for determining the habitability of a galaxy. According to this, elliptical galaxies are determined to be more habitable than spiral galaxies.
