The Cardiovascular System is composed of the heart, blood vessels, and blood. The function of this system is to nourish the body by transporting nutrients and oxygen to the cells and removing carbon dioxide and other waste products. The heart is a hollow muscular organ located between the lungs. It is divided into right and left sides. Each side is subdivided, thus forming four chambers. The atria, are the two upper chambers of the heart, and the ventricles are the two lower chambers. The atria are separated by the interatrial septum, and the ventricles are separated by the interventricular septum.The blood circulation is divided into Systemic Circulation (includes the flow of blood to all parts of the body excepts the lungs), and the Pulmonary Circulation (the flow of blood between the heart and lungs.)

The Lymphatic System is composed of the lymph, lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and thymus. The functions of the lymphatic system are: Absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins from the digestive system, removal of excessive tissue fluid returning this to the circulatory system, and removal of cellular waste products. It also has a very important role as part of the immune system. The lymph is a transparent, usually colorless, tissue fluid. The lymph nodes are small, spherical bodies made up of lymphoid tissue. The spleen is the largest lymphatic organ in the body. The thymus gland plays an important role in the development of the body’s immune system.
