2 1 discussion factors challenges and dimensions of wellness peer responses

PEER RESPONSES..VERY SHORT RESPONSES NO PROBLEM

Consider the eight dimensions of wellness and the module resources, then choose the dimension that is most relevant to your program of study. Make sure you specify in the subject line which dimension you chose. Then address the following in your initial post:

  • List three factors that you think could help people improve their levels of wellness, and then list three challenges that you think people could face with regard to that dimension.
  • Looking at these factors and challenges, how could the four lenses support the dimension?
  • Discuss how what you learned fits with or has changed your perspective about wellness.
  • Support your answer with evidence from research by providing a reference and a summary of the findings.

When responding to your peers, select peers who have chosen different dimensions from yours. Then choose one of the challenges and extend the discussion of the four lenses beyond what is in their post.

Make sure you support your ideas with information presented in the course material and other scholarly resources.

PEER 1

At my work I think the social dimension is really important. I think it is the area that is currently missing and is causing significant strife. I think the three things that could be done is providing social time during breaks, have a staff appreciation lunch, and have a teambuilding workshop. There are quite a few current challenges that I face on a daily basis. I have staff who have worked for the company for twenty plus years and are set in their ways. I have staff that have long standing resentments with each other that are difficult to remedy. Also, I am a new supervisor and their old supervisor allowed certain toxic behavior to exist.

I think important lenses are historical and social sciences. Utilize a historical lens to assess what has been tried in the past, what has worked and what has not worked to improve the situation. A social science lens could help to determine specific personality traits of each staff to ensure I am meeting the staff’s needs. I have always looked at wellness as more of an internal process and hadn’t thought much about how changes in the environment and the social aspect could improve wellness.

PEER 2

Intellectual

My program of study is creative writing with a concentration in fiction. The intellectual dimension is “recognizing creative abilities and finding ways to expand knowledge and skills” (Garcia, 6). As a writer it is important to constantly learn and perfect your craft. Writing is the easy part, it is the revision of your work that takes the longest, and why I chose the intellectual dimension. You have to continually find ways to be creative. Three things that can improve my level of wellness, is getting a good night’s sleep, making sure I have a good support system, and being able to cope with stress in a healthy capacity. Three challenges that I can face are, my husband losing his job because his income is our main source of income, not having a healthy diet, or the death of a loved one.

The four lenses can support the intellectual dimension in these ways: The social sciences can help me create believable relationships with my characters, because it studies human behavior. The study of human behavior can also help us understand why people behave in ways that would not provide a healthy relationship. The natural sciences can help me because, if I am writing about a topic in which I am unfamiliar with – such as physics – I can make sure that I have a better understanding and my story will be believable. The history lens can be applied to all dimensions and other lenses as well. We can learn from our past to prevent future mistakes or repeat the same ones. It can teach us how to improve our life and learn from other cultures. The humanities can help with the intellectual dimension because you are learning about other cultures how they express their experiences. Like through story telling.
